Vivitiv Recycling Program
We do a lot of work on the environmental front, recycling, water quality, storm water mitigation, reducing your carbon footprint…this week we are putting some of that into practice. We’ve been going through our sample closet and have been paring down our vast collection of printed samples, sketches, presentation boards, tear sheets and project files of all sorts, and we have filled up an entire recycling bin. We’re not even halfway finished with our sample purge. We have been lugging around work from the past 30 years, work for all sorts of clients and industries, from financial services firms to entertainment companies to public policy organizations. Some of our samples have outlived the enterprises themselves, if you wanted a brochure from E.F. Hutton, a film festival program or thumbnails of a World Trade Center poster you’re out of luck. We hope that all of this design work will recycled into something useful and informative. And we’ll keep on creating work both online and off, with an eye to sustainability and a little less hoarding.
King and Queen for a Day Birthday Cards
We just heard that today, February 7, is the birthday of Ronald Reagan and Zsa Zsa Gabor. Which for some inexplicable reason made us think of these birthday cards we designed. Royalty of a sort.
Graphic Novel Panel January 26

Carbon Yeti Education Outreach Award from the EPA
We were reminded yesterday that our work with the City of Bellevue Utility Department on their campaign to reduce carbon emissions won an Education and Outreach award from the Environmental Protection Agency. We forgot to post about this a while back, but better late than never we always say.

Volunteer Park Conservatory Centennial Logo
It’s not often we get to use ornate typefaces. Face it, there just aren’t that many opportunities where the use is appropriate. But when commissioned to design collateral for the Volunteer Park Conservatory Centennial this year, we knew a Victorian-style crest would add to their messaging. And type that was favored by sign painters in the early 1900s would be perfect for this mark.
The Conservatory, located in Olmstead designed Volunteer Park, was actually constructed from a kit by Hitchings Company of New York. (An ad for a residential greenhouse by Hitchings can be seen here.) The Conservatory was completed in 1912 and consists of 5 houses: The Cactus House, The Bromeliad House, The Palm House, The Fern House and The Seasonal House which changes, of course, seasonally.
What’s that you say? You haven’t been there recently? Here’s your opportunity to see the Haunted Conservatory lit up for a Halloween evening event, October 31, 5-8 pm. Winners of a pumpkin carving contest will be on display along with a fortune teller, cider and treats for all. It’s one of Ciscoe’s picks. While you’re there, support the Conservatory.
